New Wisconsin HSA Tax Fact Sheet
A health savings account (HSA) is a special account owned by an individual and used to pay for medical expenses. Health savings accounts are used in conjunction with a high deductible health plan. Effective for taxable years beginning in 2011 and thereafter, Wisconsin follows the provisions of Public Law 108-173 relating to health savings accounts.

Capitol Report: Lawmakers will vote on state's request for health care waiver
An attempt by the state to obtain a federal waiver to allow Wisconsin to tighten eligibility requirements for dozens for Medicaid and BadgerCare health care programs — a risky move that puts the health coverage of 53,000 people on the line — has hit a slight holdup in the Legislature.

Reps. Grigsby & Mason Call For Immediate Hearing on Walker Plan to Dismantle Health Care
Today, Democratic members on the legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance called for an immediate hearing on the Walker Administration’s plan to dismantle affordable health care in Wisconsin. In a letter to the Committee’s co-chairs, Rep. Tamara Grigsby (D-Milwaukee) and Rep. Cory Mason (DRacine) urged Republicans to convene the Committee convene immediately in order to scrutinize the plan submitted this week by Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services (DHS).

Health insurer rebate exemptions would cost consumers
The request by the state's insurance commissioner to exempt health insurers from having to spend 80% of premiums on medical care could cost consumers an estimated $14 million over three years.

State Senator Frank Lasee says he will kill AB 210 in Committee
State Senator Frank Lasee (R-De Pere) announced today that, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Insurance and Housing, he will take no action on AB 210. His inaction will effectively kill the bill. AB 210, which moved quickly through the Assembly, was assigned to Lasee’s committee on October 19th and had a public hearing last week on October 25th.

Walker adjusts plan to close $554 million gap in Medicaid programs
Gov. Scott Walker's administration tweaked its proposals Monday to close a half billion-dollar budget hole in the state's health plans for the poor as a deadline approaches for deciding whether the state will drop the health coverage of tens of thousands of state residents.

Insurer Humana’s 3Q profit climbs 13 percent
Humana Inc.’s third-quarter net income jumped 13 percent after another strong quarter of Medicare Advantage enrollment growth. The health insurer’s shares hit a new 52-week high Monday after it also gave a better 2012 forecast than some analysts expected.
